Overview

What does national identity sound like beyond Earth?

Space Anthem was an ambitious sonic experiment created in collaboration with ENBD and LIWA Advertising—reimagining the UAE’s national anthem, Ishi Biladi, through the sounds of space. The project sought to fuse patriotism with science, translating national pride into a soundscape drawn from the cosmos itself.

Our role was to transform astronomical data into music—without losing the emotional gravity of the anthem.

The Challenge

The task was both technical and philosophical.

The music needed to:

• Respect the sanctity and familiarity of the national anthem
• Integrate non-musical, scientific audio sources meaningfully
• Avoid novelty and gimmickry
• Balance awe and intimacy, science and sentiment

This was not about spectacle—it was about reinterpretation with restraint.

Creative Direction

We treated space not as a metaphor, but as an instrument.

Electromagnetic audio signals captured from across the solar system became the building blocks of the composition. These signals were carefully tuned, shaped, and woven into the anthem’s structure—ensuring the melody remained recognisable while the texture became otherworldly.

The goal was to let the anthem expand outward, as if echoing across the universe.

Sonic Sources & Translation

Each celestial body contributed a specific musical role:

• Jupiter’s electromagnetic howl — atmospheric depth and scale
• Saturn’s ring emissions — melodic movement and shimmer
• Venus’s low-frequency hum — bass foundation
• The Sun’s oscillations — rhythmic pulse and energy

These sounds were minimally processed to preserve their raw character, allowing science to remain audible within the music.

Human Element

To ground the composition emotionally, we introduced a children’s choir—a deliberate contrast to the vastness of space.

The choir represented continuity, innocence, and future generations, anchoring the cosmic soundscape in human emotion and national belonging.

Execution

• Translation of raw electromagnetic data into usable musical material
• Careful harmonic integration with the original anthem
• Balanced orchestration to maintain reverence and clarity
• Final mix designed to feel surreal. 

Every decision was guided by respect—for both the anthem and the science behind the sound.

Result

The final piece emerged as a celestial interpretation of patriotism—where national identity transcends geography.

Space Anthem transforms sound into storytelling, merging science, culture, and emotion into a singular musical experience.
